Discolored water due to high usage and flows

There have been several calls regarding discolored water in a couple of the District systems over the last few days.  Due to the high temperatures we are experiencing there have been extremely high water flows in the watermains that resulted in the natural sediment that collects in the bottom of the watermain to be stirred up, resulting in discolored water in some of the systems.

If you are experiencing discolored water in your private plumbing at a private home, please flush your plumbing by turning on the outside hosebib and let the water run clear (typically 5-10 minutes depending on the length of service line from the meter to the home).

The discolored water is a result of natural sediments that gather in the watermains and can occasionally be stirred up and enter private plumbing.  While the water is visually unappealing, the minerals in the water are naturally occurring and are not harmful.

Thank you for your patience during this process.
