POSITION SUMMARY AND SCOPE OF RESONSIBILITY

The Opportunity:

Valley Water District has an immediate opening for a Water Utility Worker I or II. The District is seeking a knowledgeable, motivated individual to be part of a team whose goal is to provide safe and quality installation, repairs, and preventive maintenance to the District’s water systems.

The District:

Valley Water District (VWD) is a municipal corporation formed pursuant to and regulated by Washington State statutes, specifically Title 57 RCW.  Valley Water District strives to provide its customers with clean, safe, reliable water service that meets or exceeds all water quality standards, maintaining policies and practices that benefit the health and welfare of the community. Formed in 1993, the District currently owns and operates 8 non-contiguous water systems that total approximately 3,200 connections.

The Details:

Job Title: Water Utility Worker I or II

Responsible To: Operations Manager

Starting Salary: $25-$30/hr DOE (Water Utility Worker I)

Starting Salary: $34-$42/hr DOE (Water Utility Worker II)

FLSA Classification: Full-Time, Permanent, Non-Exempt

Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm

Opening Date: Immediately

Driving is an essential function of this position; a valid Washington State Driver’s license and acceptable driving record required. After a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal History Background Check will be conducted.

 

POSITION DUTIES

Job Summary:

The Water Utility Worker I or II is responsible for the on-site maintenance and operation of the District’s water distribution and treatment systems, physical plants, tanks, and reservoirs. Candidate should possess basic math skills, a familiarity with computers, ability to use hand & power tools, and sufficient skills and/or education to work safely with mechanical and electrical devices and systems.  Ability to operate heavy equipment is a plus.  Water and/or sewer experience is preferred but not required. This position will be required to be in the on-call rotation (every 4-6 weeks) and must reside within 30 minutes travel to the District office.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Water Utility Worker I:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Washington driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
  • 1-2 years of experience focused on maintenance, general construction, or utility-related work.
  • Washington State Water Distribution Manager I certification (or obtain within 1 year).
  • Flagger/Traffic Control Certification (or obtain within 1 year).
  • First Aid/CPR Certification (or obtain within 1 year),

Water Utility Worker II: (all of the items for the Water Utility Worker I plus the following)

  • 3-5 years progressively responsible experience in the maintenance, repair, and operation of a water distribution system of a public utility or comparable construction experience; any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.
  • Washington State Water Distribution Manager I or higher certification.
  • A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement, (or obtain within 1 year).
  • Water Treatment Plat Operator 1 or higher certification (or obtain within 2 years).
  • Cross Connection Control Specialist (or obtain within 1 year).
